Alvin "Al" Merle Bynum, Jr., 47, of Blytheville, passed away Monday morning at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis TN. He was born on November 14, 1967 in St. Louis MO to Alvin Merle Bynum, Sr. and Peggy Jo Drewry Bynum. He was a born again Christian and was of the Baptist faith.
Al was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, especially deer. He enjoyed all types of fishing, and was quite successful. In his youth, he enjoyed playing many sports, including baseball, basketball, and football.
He was very close to his father. He loved his children and was very proud of them. His family said that he was very caring, and worried about everyone, especially his mother. He would give everything he had to anyone in need. He loved his sisters and told them repeatedly how much he loved them. His only brother held a special place in his heart as well.
He loved all his family. They said that he was a very strong person. He fought his physical condition for 30 years, and he was especially brave and strong during the last three months of his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Merle Bynum, Sr.; his infant brother, Talmadge Gestring; his Grandparents: Robert H. Lawrence and Dorothy Lawrence of Steele, Mo; Eva Mae Kelley of Caruthersville, Mo and Samuel Bennett Bynum as well as many aunts and uncles.
He is survived by four sons: Alvin Merle Bynum, III (Trey) of Proctor, AR; Keith Allen Bynum and Dillon Jack Bynum, both of Hardy, AR and Maverick Troy Tounzen of Monette, AR;
His mother: Peggy Jo Bynum Rich (Bobby) of Blytheville, AR;
One brother: Michael Bennett Bynum, Sr. (Amber) of Hardy, AR;
Four sisters: Cathy Simmons (Sandy) of Steele, MO; Tammy Modesitt (Dave Schreier) of Jonesboro, AR; Sheri Bynum of Marion, AR; and Connie Miller (Jared) of Blytheville, AR;
Al had several special nieces and nephews as well as his special friend, Jolene Sanders, of Proctor, AR.
Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church with Bro. Gary Hyde officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 3:00p.m. until service begins at the church.
Burial will be in Carney Cemetery, 1501 Byrum Rd in Blytheville.
