Betty Lou Tarbutton Layton of Blytheville, Arkansas, and formerly of Wynne, Arkansas, was welcomed to her eternal home Friday, June 4, 2021, by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was there reunited with her dearly-missed husband of 59 years, Jerry, and her beloved daughter, Brenda, as well as her parents, brothers and sister. Those pre-deceasing her are: her mother and father, Lloyd Graves Tarbutton and Charles B. Tarbutton; brothers Charles B. Tarbutton, Jr., Cecil Tarbutton, and John Tarbutton, and sister Versie Tarbutton Graves. She is survived by her niece, Peggy Carr, great nieces Tracy Robbins and Melanie Carr, all of Marion, Arkansas; her nephew, Terry Tarbutton, niece Nancy Tarbutton James; great-nephews Gregory, Taylor, and Banner Tarbutton, and great-nieces Mallory Tarbutton and Jordan McLeod.
She also leaves behind a special friend and unofficial daughter, Mary Kay Martin; and special caregivers, Amanda Berryhill, Bernice Williams, Lauren Martin, and Jacob Caruthers, who came late into her life, but provided so much joy in addition to their excellent care.
Betty was born May 13, 1935 and raised in Wynne. She married her long-time sweetheart, Jerry in 1958. They stayed in Wynne after Jerry’s service in the US Navy, and resided and worked and raised their daughter Brenda there. Upon their retirement in 1999, they moved to Blytheville to be closer to Brenda. All of the Laytons were active in church in many capacities all their lives, including at First Baptist Church in Blytheville.
Funeral services will be conducted by Carney Funeral Home of Blytheville, with visitation from 12:00—2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. Funeral and burial will begin at 2:00 p.m. Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church in Blytheville, or to charities of your choice.
