Mrs. Betty Overton Welch, 69, wife of Clark Welch, of Blytheville died Wednesday evening at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. She was the daughter of Chris Daniel Overton and Eula Lee Collier Overton. She was a retired bookkeeper and had also worked in several hospital positions over the years.
The youngest of eight children, she was always very family oriented. Her kids and husband came first in her life. She loved holidays and cooking big meals for her family - but they better not be late! She organized family reunions, did fish fries in the summer, and hot tamale suppers on January 1.
When her children were younger, she did a lot of sewing. She made their doll clothes, and the children's clothes, and was also very adept at making beautiful quilts. She also loved to go fishing with her children.
Betty played basketball in high school, but later her games of choice were baseball, mainly the Atlanta Braves, and football - Indianapolis Colts. She also was a big fan of the American Legion Casons. Among her favorite things were diet Dr. Pepper, the TV show NCIS, and the ocean. She was afraid of water because she didn't swim, but she loved to go to the Gulf to see the ocean.
She was not a gardener, but she always had a beautiful pot of geraniums at her front door, and ferns throughout her house.
She organized the Blytheville "freecycle.org" on the internet, to help people redistribute needed items. She was an avid reader and loved to play cards.
She was devoted friend, wife, mother, daughter. According to those who knew her, she was one "classy lady."
