Jerry Carlos Layton, 85, of Blytheville passed away on Wednesday, October 11th, at Heritage Square Nursing Home. He was born in Earle Arkansas to Herbert and Mamie Layton on March 21, 1932.
He served his country in the U. S. Navy in the Korean Conflict. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Blytheville and previous member of First Baptist Church in Wynne Arkansas. He had been a deacon since the age of 27. He was an inactive Mason.
Mr. Layton retired from maintenance at Halstead in Wynne after 35 years. He also enjoyed being a police office for 8-10 years. He was a hard worker. He was the middle child of 14 and worked to help support his family even at the young age of first gradeв?¦picking cotton.
He also enjoyed deer hunting at a club around Sheriden. He had a hobby of woodworking making shelving and he had made his daughter a coffee table. He was a Cardinal's fan. He was a quiet, gentle, and calm man who enjoyed travelling on vacation with his wife and daughter to Branson and to Disney World.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Brenda Kay Layton.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty Tarbutton Layton, of Blytheville;
Two brothers: Paul Layton, of Lowell Arkansas and Ray Layton of state of Massachusetts;
Two sisters: Nell Layton of Nashville Tennessee and Louise Midgett of state of Mississippi;
He had special friends including Bill Sullivan and Harley Bradley.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 14th, 2:00 p.m. at Carney Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phil Hall officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. until service begins. Burial will be in Carney Cemetery.
