Jessie Moody Goodman

Mrs. Jessie Moody Goodman, 89, of Blytheville, formerly of Caruthersville, widow of Herbert Goodman, died Sunday evening at the home of her son.

She was born in 1921 at Lake City, AR to Earl and Ethel Tiner Moody, and later moved to Gosnell with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands: Herman Carney and Herbert Goodman; two brothers: Charlie Moody and Malen Moody; and three sisters: Dorothy Pack, Wearline Richardson, and Bonnie Moody.

After the death of her first husband, as a single mother she raised her son, working a man's job to take care of him. She was mother, father and best friend to him, playing cowboy and Indians, wrestling, riding stick horses, playing baseball, etc.

She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Caruthersville for many years, and after moving to Blytheville ten years ago, attended the First Christian Church of Blytheville, where her son is pastor.

She is survived by her son, Dr. Tommy J. Carney (Mabelee) of Blytheville;

four grandsons: Joe Carney (Vickie) of Thayer, MO, Ricky Carney (Teresa) of Sadler, TX, Randy Carney (Lana) of Osceola, and Alan Carney(Beverly) of Mountain Home; her granddaughter and caregiver: Susan Lambert of Blytheville; a step-grandson: Jeff Goodman (Cathy) of Mountain View, AR ; sixteen great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephew, and one special great-niece: Melanie Banks of Gosnell.

Visitation will be at Carney Funeral Home, 1501 Byrum Rd from 6 until 8 on Tuesday evening, August 17th.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, August 18 at 11:00 AM at Carney Funeral Home with Rev. Rick Carney and Rev. Gary Hyde officiating.

Interment in Elmwood Cemetery.
