Larry “Toad” James Statler, 73, of Union MO, formerly of Blytheville, passed away on February 28, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Washington MO. He was born in Blytheville on July 20, 1950 to Omer and Johna Gillette Statler. He graduated from Blytheville High School. He was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church.
He was known as “Toad” to his family and friends. In younger years, he enjoyed hunting with his brothers for rabbits and squirrels. His daughter remembers camping trips growing up. He had a best friend, Bubba, his dog that went everywhere with him.
He retired from the Blytheville Fire Department after 20 years of service. He also had experience in farming and painting.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelley Statler; his parents, Omer and Johna Statler; his brothers: Charles Statler, David Statler, and Jerry Statler; and two sisters: Bonnie Carter and Bobbie Swain.
He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Hughes and husband Thomas, of Cuba MO; fourteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Joyce Statler, of Blytheville; and one brother, Elsworth Statler, of Cape Girardeau MO; friends from the Blytheville Fire Department and the Blytheville Emergency Squad; church family from New Liberty Baptist Church; and others who will miss him dearly.
Graveside services will be on Monday, March 3, 2025 at 12:00 pm in Carney Cemetery in Blytheville AR with Fire Chief Mike Carney officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 am – 12:00 pm in Carney Chapel. Condolences may be offered at carneyfuneralhome.com.
