Mary Lynn Jackson McHaney was born March 12, 1924, to Ernest and Era Jackson in Blytheville, Arkansas. She graduated as salutatorian of the Blytheville High School Class of 1941. She attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri, graduating with a BA degree in 1945. Lynn married Joseph W. McHaney, who had just returned from service in the Army Air Force, on June 25, 1947, by Rev. Scott Baird. Their first child, Lynn Joanne, was born in June, 1948. A second daughter, Jill Jackson, joined the family in 1956.
Lynn was active in the Christian Women's Fellowship of her church, serving as president, secretary, and treasurer. She was in the first group of women serving as a deacon of the First Christian Church. She also worked with PTA and Girl Scouts while her girls were in school. She was a life member of both Beta Sigma Phi and the Blytheville Junior Auxiliary. Lynn worked as a Red Cross volunteer for many, many years. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter CI, since 1989.
Her husband, Joe Bill, preceded her in death in February, 2004. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters Joanne (Mike) Huffman and Jill (Ben) Hubbard, all of Blytheville, her grandchildren Jill (Jeff) Netzel of Springdale, AR, and Joel (Sarah) Huffman of Fayetteville, AR, and great grandchildren Kate, Caroline, and Will Netzel, special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held in the First Christian Church sanctuary on Friday, November 24, from 1-2 p.m. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. with Rev. Holly Jo Engle and Dr. Tommy J. Carney officiating. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of First Christian Church, Blytheville, or the charity of one's choice. Interment will be in Elmwood cemetery.
