Peggy Jo Bynum, 79, of Blytheville passed away at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro on November 14, 2022. She was born on January 19, 1943, in Blytheville to Walter Gordon Drewry and Dorothy Isabel Simpkins Drewry. She was a graduate of Blytheville High School and a lifelong resident of this area. She was a longtime member of Bethany Baptist Church.
Peggy worked outside the home with several jobs, but her favorite one was being a fuel desk operator at the truck stop. She never met a stranger, and this job suited her perfectly. She loved animals, drinking coffee, shopping, and socializing with her friends. Her pride and joy were her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed going to their ball games. Her family says, “she was everybody’s “rock”, she was the “stronghold in this family.”
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Rich; two sons: an infant son, Lawrence Talmadge Gestring, Jr. and Alvin Merle Bynum, Jr.; her mother, Dorothy Simpkins Lawrence; her step-father, Robert H. Lawrence; her father, Walter Drewry; her grandmother, Annie Bell Drewry; her grandfather, Gordon Drewry; former husband, Alvin Merle Bynum, Sr.; her cousin she grew up with, Beverly Barclay; and her best friend, Catherine Boren.
She is survived by her children: Cathy Gestring Simmons, of Steele MO, Tammy Kaye Gestring Hemphill, of Rector AR, Michael Bennett and Amber Bynum, of Hardy AR, Sheri Leann (and Lana) Bynum, of Marion AR, and Connie Jo Miller, of Southaven MS; 21 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, and another on the way; and many friends and family that will miss her dearly
