Penny Gilliam

Penny L. Gilliam, 50, of Blytheville passed away on August 24th in NEA Baptist Hospital, Jonesboro Arkansas. She was born in Blytheville on August 9, 1968 to Charles and Carolyn Gilliam. She attended Blytheville schools and Arkansas Northeastern College. She studied early childhood education and childcare.

She was the manager at Dollar General for 9 years until her illness forced her to resign. She loved working at the store and always talked about how she missed her customers.

In earlier years she enjoyed going camping and fishing at the lake. Penny enjoyed riding four wheelers too. She liked to be in nature and came across a squirrel she named “Jim” that would gladly accept her offerings at the bottom of the tree.

It was important for her that family came first. She kept the family together. She loved her daddy very much, even more than herself. They would act crazy driving in the parking lots “making donuts” after a good snow and just enjoying time together.

There was a generous down to earth nature to her, yet she would speak her mind if she felt the need to. She enjoyed drinking a good Mt. Dew or Coke Cola while scratching to see if her ticket was a winner.

She is survived by her children Dustin Hatley of Blytheville, AR; Ashley Gilliam of Blytheville, AR;

Her father, Charles Gilliam of Hardy, AR;

Brother, Charles Gilliam, Jr of Jonesboro, AR; Sister, Tracy Gilliam of Gosnell, AR

Nephews: Charles Gilliam III of Jonesboro, AR; Cody Webb of Steele, MO; Jared Bressler of Gosnell, AR

Nieces: Alora Sledge of Steele, MO; Jessica Bressler of Jonesboro, AR

She is also survived by the father of her children, Buddy Hatley.

Visitation will be held at 2:00p.m. on Friday August 31, 2018 at Carney Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 3:00pm with Dr. Tommy Carney officiating. Condolences may be offered at www.carneyfuneralhome.com.
