Roy E. Abshier, 93, of Blytheville, went to be with the Lord on November 1, 2015.
Roy was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 4, 1922. Soon after graduating from high school in Detroit, he joined the United States Army. After serving 23 years, he retired from the Army in 1963, as an E6. His last tour of service was at Presidio (San Francisco, CA) where he was the Tower Chief overseeing Air Traffic Control. He then moved to Blytheville, AR where he worked as Grain Elevator Manager at Barfield for Farmers Soybean Supply for many years. After retiring from there, he spent his time raising a wonderful vegetable garden, which he shared with many people, and doing yard work which he thoroughly enjoyed. He loved to work!
Roy was an avid reader, and he also loved working on his computer. He raised pecans, gathered them, cracked them, picked them out and gave them away. He had many pets through the years, and often kept pets in his home for people who were out of town for a few days. He was a kind, generous person who loved everybody. His special saying was "Life is so precious!"
In addition to his wife, Marcella, and his parents, Roy was also predeceased by seven siblings.
He is survived by one son, Elbert Lee Till from Columbia, MO;
One grandson, Trevor Scott Till who was very special to him;
One sister, Grace, from St. Louis, MO;
His beloved caregivers, Alberta and Curtis Miller;
And special friends: Greg Galbraith family, The Carneys, and his extended Church family.
Visitation will be held at First Christian Church, on Thursday, November 5, 2015, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 6, 2015 at First Christian Church, at 1:00 P.M. with Dr. Tommy Carney and Dr. Keith Hearnsberger officiating.
