Sylvia Marie Keiter, 25, of Shreveport Louisiana, formerly of Blytheville, died on Saturday morning, May 19, 2018. She was born in Blytheville to Gary Randall Keiter and Dee Lybrand Keiter. Sylvia was a graduate of Gosnell High School.
She was introduced to gymnastics at the Wright Gym in Blytheville at the tender age of 3. She fell in love with gymnastics and continued her training at Champions Gym under the guidance of Bill Grogan. She received a scholarship from Centenary College in Shreveport where she continued training under guidance of Jackie Fain. After graduation she was the Assistant Coach for a year at Centenary.
Sylvia, or “Big Syl” as she was affectionately known, loved life, she was a participator! While in high school she was part of the 9th grade Homecoming Court, she was a cheerleader, and her senior year she played softball. Outside of school, she enjoyed going to the lake and wakeboarding. She had recently gotten involved with Crossfit and had made great strides.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Centenary College. She had one year of graduate school with a 4.0 in education. She was studying to have a career in physical therapy and sports medicine and was recently accepted into PTA school.
She was a natural, just good at everything she tried to do. She loved helping others. She had a beautiful smile and a big laugh!
She is survived by her father, Gary Keiter, of Ash Flat AR;
Her mother and step-father: Dee and Mike Wallace, of Blytheville AR;
One brother, Phillip Hunter Keiter, of Everett WA;
Two step-sisters: Holly Jo Engle of Blytheville AR and Hannah Brasher of Risco MO;
Grandparents: Joe Dee and Sylvia Marie Lybrand of Tumbling Shoals AR and Owen Hunter and Barbara Fay Keiter of Monette AR;
Three aunts: Kim and Alex Workman of Bonham TX, Roxanne Keiter of Lake City AR, and Rhonda Keiter of Monette AR;
Two cousins: Hunter Keiter and Lauren West;
And many other friends and family that will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening, 5:00-7:00 p.m., at Carney Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church in Blytheville with Alex Workman officiating. Burial will follow immediately in Carney Cemetery.
