Ted Johnston Obituary

Ted Johnston, 72, died Sunday afternoon at his home in Blytheville. He was born March 7, 1938 in Dell, AR the son of Casey and Grace King Johnston,

Mr. Johnston sold insurance for Farm Bureau for a few years, worked at Sears for 8 years, but his main occupation was selling cars which he did and loved for 37 years until his retirement. He continued buying and selling automobiles for his son-in-law even after his official retirement.

Ted was baptized as a boy at Dell Baptist Church, and rededicated his life about 25 years ago. He was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church, a veteran of the United States Army, a former member of the nighttime Lion's Club and the Jaycees, where he held various offices, and a member of the American Legion.

Ted was very fond of sweets - his favorite was coconut pie. He enjoyed fishing, watching detective shows on TV, going to baseball games, especially the St. Louis Cardinals, and being with his family. He was especially close to his sisters, as his brothers all lived far away.
He was known as "Bear" to his close friends. He was a big man, and his daughter said that when he wrapped his arms around you, it was like a bear hug.

He was an easy-going man, easy to please, and never a complainer. It seemed that everyone who knew him, liked him. He was good to everybody. Beth said that she had a good, loving childhood.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan McQuirt Johnston:

one daughter, Beth Fitzgerald and her husband, Larry:

four sisters: Betty Minyard of Blytheville, Peggy Baker of Saulk Village, IL, Sherry Griffin of Dell, and Bobbie Boyd of Temple, TX;

three brothers: Ron Johnston of Tukwila,WA, David Johnston of Las Vegas, NV, and Jack Johnston of Seattle,WA.

The family requests that any memorials be made to Fairview Baptist Church or to the Blytheville Humane Society.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 at Carney Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 AM at Carney Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Haynes officiating, assisted by Rev. Collin Jones.

Interment will be in Elmwood
Cemetery.
